The time is right for Product Advisor Plus

About a decade ago, we were busy grappling with the ramifications of complying with phase 1 of the Energy Independence and Security Act's ruling on general service lamps. The change would be tough for consumers and us as we thought then. We were wrong. The product was inherently better than any other competing technology, pricing fell quickly, and the market accepted it with open arms. We got behind the LED train and watched our business grow.

Fast forward to today, and we're gearing up for another transformative moment in our small, boutique industry: the widespread emergence of decarbonization and beneficial electrification programs. These programs rely on independent measures that operate systemically. Equally important are the informed customers needed to source and configure measures in their homes and businesses.

Heat Pump Water Heaters

Like successful programs before it, we need a "poster child" measure to convey succinctly what we are trying to accomplish. For residential lighting, it was the A-Lamp 60w equivalent LED. For appliances, it was the front load clothes washer. For demand response, it was the smart thermostat. For decarbonization and beneficial electrification, it's the heat pump water heater.

We never thought water heating would be the "it" product of the 2020s, but here we are. What better product for the ambitious undertaking many programs are beginning to undergo? The goal to "decarbonize" or "electrify everything" pairs well with a super-efficient electric technology that connects to the grid. The fact that heat pump water heaters haven't surpassed 3% in market share means there's plenty of room for growth. Most importantly, the price is right when you factor in utility incentives from a customer standpoint. Talk about the right measure for the right industry at the right time.

So, what do we do now?

A few years ago, online food delivery apps were a luxury, and today, they are commodities. Customers want to see all their options, get it their way (pick up or delivery), and have access to customer support for their entire ordering and pre-eating process. When people use phrases like "the best experience for the customer" or other cliché phrases, this is what they are describing. Unfortunately, we haven't replicated it as an industry and desperately need it for success this decade and beyond. Here's are the three components that will propel programs to newfound success:

A few years ago, online food delivery apps were a luxury, and today, they are commodities.
  • A more personalized and transparent customer approach to introduce heat pump water heaters and other qualified measures centered on choice and control over their experience.
  • A direct-to-customer marketing and engagement approach engineered and deployed by utilities and their implementation teams to do what they do best.
  • A synergistic supply chain approach empowers and encourages partners to focus on serving the customer's needs where everyone wins.

These three components are the foundation of the Product Advisor Plus platform.

TechniArt's Product Advisor Plus platform offers programs a simplistic, customer-first approach that uses local distributors and contractors to sell, deliver, and install efficient equipment. There's a lot to unpack here, so like any good company trying to do a paradigm shift, we will break it all down into digestible vignettes in the next few months.
